Five years ago this month – in October 2007 – Disney officially announced plans for a major expansion of Disney California Adventure park, to include a new area called Cars Land. Now, five years later, this monumental expansion is complete and the Happiest Place on Earth is even happier! Here’s a look back at some highlights of the expansion:

You can find even more Disney California Adventure park expansion milestones and go behind the scenes at our “Five Years of Expansion at the Disneyland Resort” microsite.

Today, we’ve got a special treat for you Disney California Adventure park fans. Our latest Disney Parks Blog wallpaper from artist Jason “Tiki” Tackett (who brought us the previous Orange Bird, Aulani and Disney Cruise Line wallpapers) is a bird’s-eye view of the park. Warning: You may find yourself distracted from your work looking through all the details Jason has incorporated from each corner of the park.
