Springtime is just around the corner, which means the return of the beloved Egg-stravaganza to Disneyland Resort. This fun, egg-themed scavenger hunt will take place from April 1-16, 2017, at Disneyland park, Disney California Adventure park, and Downtown Disney District. I recently “hopped” over to special event merchandiser Linda Votaw to discover what makes this activity popular with guests.
“This is the fifth year we’ve offered the Egg-stravaganza at the Disneyland Resort,” explained Linda. “I believe our guests love it as spring is a wonderful season to visit. This activity is easy to do, and it’s something the whole family can enjoy. Even if you have been to Disneyland Resort many times, this scavenger hunt gives guests an opportunity to explore the theme parks and Downtown Disney District in a new way.”
To participate, pick up a map and stickers for $5.99 (plus tax) at select merchandise locations throughout Disneyland Resort. Search for special hidden “eggs” themed to Disney and Pixar characters. Record your discoveries by placing the corresponding sticker on the themed Egg-stravaganza map to represent that location.
Whether you choose to hunt for eggs or not, return your map to a redemption location for a surprise. Redemption locations include the following merchandise shops: Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure park; Disney Showcase in Disneyland park; World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District.
For guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, don’t forget the Egg-stravaganza is currently taking place at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival through May 29, 2017.
Purchasing limits will apply, while supplies last. Please note discounts will apply this year. Separate admission is required to enter Disney theme parks. The experience is subject to restrictions and may change without notice.

Hello! So I know I should let this go and I really do hate to complain, but yesterday when I went to California Adventure to participate in the egg hunt, I was told that the egg hunt ended a week ago. Do you know what happened because the website gave the dates of April 1-16, 2017. The cast member I spoke with yesterday was very nice though. I’m just curious to know what happened. Thank you!
Are you able to find the eggs at night? are they lit up to see/find them?
For people wanting to know about the Star Wars Easter Egg.. I believe they are limited edition to 3,000 sets only (1,500 Disney Parks and 1,500 Epcot center). I’m sure they sold out today as of April 1st they sold over 700+ (CM stated) and I went today and there was less than 600 in the early afternoon.
Also the EGGSTRAVAGANZA is for anyone wanting to participate for $5.99 (1 map + stickers) which grants you 1 plastic easter egg.
If you don’t want to pay for ticket to Disney Parks or California Adventure, you can purchase the map in Downtown Disney and participate there.
The posting says Hunt lasts until April 16 but the map says Redemption lasts through April 22. Does that mean the eggs in the park disappear after the 16th but you can still redeem your map eggs until the 22nd?
Any chance the eggs will still be out the week after Easter? They were last year and the grandkids loved doing it.
If I have an annual pass, can we participate in the egg hunt? Or do you have to be staying in the hotel? Is there a certain time of day the eggs are there?
How sad that the southern California passes are blocked out for this event except for 4 days at the beginning of April. This our second year with passes and we can’t go again. ?

We are going to be there April 3-7 for our yearly trip and while I think this would be fun for kids, I feel like the parks are just going to be busier and busier! Since we have booked our vacation, we have learned all APs are valid just before blackout, DCA food and wine is going and now this. It’s going to be even more crazy with crowds than we anticipated. 🙁
Michelle — World of Disney sells the maps for the Downtown Disney leg of the Egg-stravaganza (while supplies last — and last year the supply was bountiful), while the maps for the hunts in each park are sold in their respective parks (in other words, you get your Disneyland map in Disneyland and your Disney California Adventure map in DCA).
I don’t know if this is the case again this year, but it’s worth nothing that last year you could also get DTD maps at some of the Disney-owned businesses in DTD (for example, at WonderGround Gallery or at D Street), and at the gift shops in each of the 3 Disneyland Resort hotels.
Since World of Disney is also the only DTD redemption location at which you can pick up your surprise, if you want to save yourself some time you can collect your surprise right at the moment you purchase your map — just so you don’t have to go back to World of Disney after completing the DTD hunt. Some people like to go back to the stores and collect their prizes after they complete the hunt. Others like to get the map and the prize right at the start, and then complete the Egg-stravaganza at some point later during their trips.
Steven, do you know if the limited edition Darth Vader and R2-D2 Easter eggs sold at Epcot will be for sale at the Disneyland Resort?

Hello! Will the map and stickers for $5.99 (plus tax) be available for purchase at World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District?
We will be at Downtown Disney on Friday April 7 for 3 hours from 10:30 to 2:00 until we can check into our hotel. This would be a great activity for the kids. We don’t get to go into Disneyland Park until the next day.
By “we” I mean 71 high school band students from Seattle and their chaperones and teachers. We are participating in the “Music in the Parks” Festival.

Dannie — I agree. I loved the pumpkin carvers and the egg decorators! To me, they were a major highlight of Halloween Time and Springtime, respectively. (Actually, that whole Roundup area was one of my favorite elements of the Halloween Time, Christmas/Holidays and Springtime seasons. It was a gem!)
The pumpkins and eggs were not only creative, but were ever-changing and evolving through their seasons, so you could see something a bit different from week to week, or each year. I miss them and wish they could return and set up shop somewhere else — in either park, or in Downtown Disney, or somewhere on the Disneyland Resort property — now that the Ranch area is no longer at Disneyland.
We really enjoyed this last year, don’t think we’re going to be able to do it this year because the time frame is SO SHORT! Why is that? 🙁
Are the Egg Decorators (Pumpkin Carvers) going to be missing once again? I will not go unless they are there. They are a big part of the Meet & Greet with the Characters we only see in Spring.

Just as a point of reference (for anyone who may be thinking that this event started earlier last year, but is not sure), in 2016 the Egg-stravaganza kicked off on March 2nd (which was a Wednesday) and was officially said to be ending on March 27th (although it was ultimately extended for one week, ending on April 3rd, as there was a surplus of maps and prizes to accommodate a longer event). This year, as we know, the event is beginning on Saturday, April 1st.

So, in a nutshell — or an eggshell, as the case may be 😉 😉 — the 2016 Egg-stravaganza was announced/planned as a 26-day event (much longer than it had been in any previous year), but ended up spanning 33 days due to the unexpected extension. In previous years it had been a 10-day event, and in its first year (2013), I believe it was even shorter than 10 days — maybe just one week? As we now know, the 2017 Egg-stravaganza is going to be a 16-day event (not counting any possible extensions that could happen due to a surplus of maps and prizes), starting just about one full month later than it began last year, and on a weekend instead of a weekday.

Another interesting observation is that, for at least a couple of years, the Egg-stravaganza covered the same dates at both WDW and DLR, whereas this time around the Epcot event is lasting for about 3 months, and it got started much earlier than DLR’s egg hunt is getting started!

Last year this was happening in mid-March… I wish they had started it earlier again this year. My spring break is in March and I’m a teacher so I can’t take time off during April to go… we have standardized testing (yuck!). I’m so sad to miss the egg hunt this year! 🙁

I had fun with this last year. There where 2 of them that I couldn’t fine over on Disneyland side. When I was seeing Princess Aurora that day she was asking me what I was up to. So when I told her what I was doing and told her that I couldn’t fine them. She told me where to fine the two that I couldn’t fine. It was so neat to have a Character at Disneyland helping me out with the hunt. I hope I can do it this year to.

We did the Egg-stravaganza for DL, DCA & DTD district & it’s seriously so much fun! I have to agree with another commenter tho that the timing should be adjusted. The 1st thru 16th is only about 2 weeks. I would have included the last week of March too but thats just me. Push the comments along to the R&D department that guests are loving the spring activities & want them to begin closer to the start of spring til Easter.

Wish you guys were starting this event earlier this year. My AP pass is blocked for most of this and I love doing this event with my kids. Maybe next year it could start a week sooner to give passholders a chance to go before being blocked? Thank u!

I must admit, I love this event! I am a sucker for a seasonal/holiday-ish event at Disneyland Resort. I do wish it were starting in March, though.
The prizes are a cute little bonus and keepsake, of course, but the real fun for me is hunting down the eggs! I’ve had so much fun any time I have participated in the Egg-stravaganza, and some of the eggs were a bit trickier to find than I expected — but I welcomed the challenge.
