Mission: SPACE ‘Relaunches’ Aug. 13 With Brand New Experiences

One of my “must-dos” at Epcot is Mission: SPACE.

Now, I’m not ACTUALLY a big thrill-ride person, but I LOVE the feeling of lift off and the expanse of looking at the Earth from outer space. It’s breathtaking.

I was there when we “launched” it in 2003 and myself – along with tens of thousands of other guests have loved the authentic, NASA-style training and space travel aboard the Mission: SPACE “rocket.”

So, now there’s even MORE to love.

Starting Aug. 13, we will relaunch the attraction with a brand new experience and an enhanced version of the “classic” Mission: SPACE.

  • If you think you’ve got “the right stuff,” take on the Orange Mission for a truly intense experience that lets you feel the force of an actual space launch en route to Mars. On this mission, you’ll dodge meteoroids, slingshot around the moon and attempt a precision landing on the Red Planet’s alien surface. This “mission” has been enhanced with new, HD video to make it even clearer – I can’t imagine!
  • Or, embark on the more family-friendly Green Mission – a new mission that takes you on an exciting orbit around Earth. On this amazing new adventure, you’ll take in sites like the Hawaiian Islands, Italy’s “boot” and the Northern Lights—as seen from space, of course—before finally landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. No matter which mission you choose, it’ll be a journey that’s totally out of this world.

In addition to all the “mission” updates, our partners at Walt Disney Imagineering have also made this attraction MORE family-friendly. Younger astronauts can now ride – the height restriction will be changed for the Green Mission side with the addition of new X-2 booster seats allowing children 40-44” to ride.

Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for all the info on exciting changes coming to Epcot.

  • hmmmm, not sure how I feel about this.
Seems like more of a simple view from space versus a MISSION…
Hope it remains interactive and exciting like the original Green mission.
Lots and lots of changes going on, some very much needed, surprised that this was being re-done, glad I got to go in May not realizing it was being re-imagined.

  • Have reservations for November. What a month…The last hooray of the Food and Wine, the beginning of the Very Merry Mickey’s Christmas party, Pandora and now Mission: SPACE. Only 43 more days to obtain our fast-passes. Of all the times we have visited, Mission: SPACE will be a first – thanks to the Green around the Earth version.

  • Excellent! So excited to try out the new green mission with my daughter in a few weeks–the height change is phenomenal!

  • Will Green be pregnancy-friendly?

  • Will the Orange mission be new or just an HD upscaling of the original attraction?

  • I returned to say that we were able to book our fastpasses for Mission Space for the end of August–it became available around 11:15am CT. Yay! Thanks for the blog update!

  • Fast passes seem to be up for some days. Today was the first day I could book for my trip in September/October and I was able to book For mission space on my Epcot days.

  • This is great news–it’s much sooner than we expected! When will Fastpasses be available for Mission Space? (It’s currently showing up as “unavailable.”)

Booking free fastpasses online for new Disney Parks attractions adds up to the perfect way to end summer. 🙂

  • Glad to see it’s opening up again in time for my first visit. Any idea if and when we’ll be able to book FastPass+ for it?

    • You should be able to book FASTPASS+ now.
