Are you planning to visit Epcot for the park’s 35th anniversary on October 1?

With the anniversary falling on a weekend – not to mention during the popular Epcot International Food & Wine Festival – there’s sure to be a ton of fun for all!

Here are a few highlights of what’s planned for this year’s anniversary celebration.

Commemorative Guide Map – Be sure to pick up a commemorative Epcot Guidemap and Times Guide on your way into the park. They’ll be available at the park’s Main Entrance, at International Gateway and Guest Relations.

Anniversary Celebration – A special celebration will be held at the Fountain View stage at 10:01 a.m. Gather to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Epcot with Mariachi Cobre and Voices of Liberty.

35th Anniversary of Epcot

Exclusive Anniversary Merchandise – Guests visiting Epcot on October 1 will have the chance to grab anniversary merchandise as a part of the “I Was There” collection (see Steven Miller’s previous post for a full look), which has been specifically designed for this year’s milestone. Items in the collection will be available only at a “pop-up” shop (which will be open for one day only/while supplies last), located just past the Art of Disney location at Epcot on October 1. Additional Epcot 35th Anniversary logo merchandise (not a part of the “I Was There” line) will be available in select merchandise locations at the park, such as Mouse Gear and on the Shop Disney Parks app.

Special Edition: IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth – Conclude your day at the park by attending a special edition of the park’s nighttime fireworks show, “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” which begins at 9 p.m.

  • I was in EPCOT in Week #1 as a media invitee. I’ll never forget the atmosphere. Television and radio outlets from around the world were broadcasting live throughout the park. It was an overcast day, but filled with the excitement of an experience of something very unique and significant. It felt as if Walt’s genius and vision for the future — and the future of mankind had just been unveiled for the world.

  • I was there one opening day. Orlando was the place for the annual Teachers’ Conference. Four of us decided to attend the opening. I remember being stuck on Space Ship Earth for about 20 minutes. It was great to be there on that day, I only wish that I had kept my ticket stub!!!. I will be coming back the week of Oct. 5-7th with my son, daughter-in-law and grandson. I am looking forward to coming back!

  • Will there be an special/rare character meets on 10/1?

  • Hubby and I were there at the 30th anniversary. I RAN from the international gateway all the way to Mousegears and waited 2.5 hours to get a limited pin set. Hubby and I(the day before) got the Figment anniversary shirt where figment is an 8-bit gfx. Still wear that shirt to this day. Now, I’m surprised to see that the EPCOT I was there tshirt IS for sale already on the parks app.

  • Will there be buttons given out along with the park maps?

  • I will be there!!! Spending the morning at Epcot as well as lunch at Garden Grill. Then off to Magic Kingdom and MNSSHP. Will miss Illuminations but hope to catch the ceremony after my 9:30 FP+ at Spaceship Earth. I will definitely try to buy a shirt and pin. I cant wait

  • We were there at a special opening party for all the people who built the park. My dad was a teamster and worked there driving trucks, brought in the dinos on a flat bed!! It was a special day!! Coincidentally my husband and his family were there too as my then future father in law had worked there too. We crossed paths so often and met 10 years later! We won’t be there on 10/1 but EPCOT holds so many special memories of my dad. Thank you!!

  • Hi! When will the Epcot 35 merchandise that is not a part of the”I was there” collection going to be available in the app?

  • I’d love to be there on 10-1-17, but am unable.

As I look at the image at the top of this page, I can’t help but wish the 14-foot Lucite sculpture with the EPCOT Center logo would be brought back, along with the EPCOT Center name and magic the park bestowed on its visitors in the ’80s and early ’90s.

  • Which shop will sell the “I was there” merchandise?

  • Any plans for Disney Parks blog to steam this live?

  • So excited for this thanks for the planning info ?

  • At past Epcot anniversaries, there have been speakers panels led by Marty Sklar and other Imagineers on the creation of the park. Sadly, Marty will not be here again but are any of these kinds of events planned as well?

    • I don’t have any information yet on who the speaker will be at the ceremony.
