UPDATE 6/24/20: Our theme parks and resort hotels remain closed and will reopen at a later date, pending state and local government approvals. https://bit.ly/3drzzgh

Sixty-five years to the date after the historic opening of Disneyland park, we are planning to open our theme park gates once again on July 17, 2020, welcoming guests back to the Disneyland Resort

Disney Parks, Experiences and Products today announced proposed plans for a phased reopening of the Disneyland Resort. Pending state and local government approvals, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel plan to reopen on July 23, and Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park will plan to reopen on July 17. Additionally, Downtown Disney District will begin reopening on July 9.

Because theme park capacity will be significantly limited to comply with governmental requirements and promote physical distancing, the Disneyland Resort will manage attendance through a new theme park reservation system that will require all guests, including Annual Passholders, to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance. Theme park reservations will be subject to availability. More details about this new reservation system will be available soon. At this time, there will also be a temporary pause on new ticket sales and Annual Passport sales and renewals. Additional details will be available soon. Please check Disneyland.com for the most current information.

Once approved, the Disneyland Resort will reopen with enhanced health and safety measures. In addition, a Guest Experience Team will be available throughout the parks and Downtown Disney District to assist guests with questions regarding these new policies.

Certain experiences that draw large group gatherings – such as parades and nighttime spectaculars – will return at a later date. While character meet and greets will be temporarily unavailable, characters will be in the parks in new ways to entertain and delight guests.

Pending governmental approval, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel and Disney Vacation Club Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa are planned to reopen to guests and members starting on July 23. Plans to support physical distancing as well as increased cleaning measures, along with a number of other health and safety protocols, will be implemented as part of the phased reopening of the hotels and the Vacation Club.

Downtown Disney District will begin reopening on July 9 in line with the state’s reopening guidelines, with its unique variety of shopping and dining experiences, including the flagship World of Disney store. With the health of guests and Disney cast members at the forefront of planning, several operational changes will be implemented based on guidance from health authorities to promote physical distancing and cleanliness throughout the Downtown Disney District.

Additional information on enhanced health and safety measures and operational changes for reopening locations will be shared soon. These policies are under continuous review and are subject to change as the Disneyland Resort monitors conditions and receives guidance from health and government authorities.

Disneyland holds a special place in the hearts of people around the world. It was created as a place where family members of all ages could have fun together – a place to “leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.” Sixty-five years later it still is.

It’s time for magic – and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Comments

  • Our anniversary is July 17th. I think it is so awesome that is when the park reopens. It would be a wonderful anniversary to spend in Disneyland.

  • If you are over 40 and have diabeities, you have a 20% chance of dying from the virus. The virus has been found to spread simply from people that are talking — no particulates needed. Why the park has decided that some PPE is considered a “costume” is beyond all reason.

  • As plans develop for reopening, will Disney Parks consider 1) allowing pass holders to suspend pass until vaccine available 2) refunding balances on passes from March 2020 to the termination date of pass? Many pass holders will be unable to use pass if/when parks open due to risk status or pre-existing/underlying med conditions as noted in many of the posts. Thank you.

  • Knowing that disneyland is going to open is not a great thing . There is a rise of cases coming up in LA county & OC. I am a AP holder signature pass that only has two weeks of blackout dates the last two weeks of the year. Me and my family are disappointed that we are paying so much money for us to be going when we want as our contract says. Now for us to reserve is not fair if we are paying a lot of money. We didn’t get the flex pass for a reason. Please Disney do something for us AP holder something better than a reservation! You can definitely lose a lot of money for this move! I love Disney . I would hate to try to reserve the first day and knowing people might go back and it be sold out. Something for us AP holders to still go when we want !!!

  • The whole thing of not allowing people to purchase a new pass, or renew doesn’t seem right. Family members purchase passes at different time or our children may have had a birthday and due to their age they now require a pass that can’t be purchased, but parents such as my husband and myself will have a pass. Will Disney allow for the cancellation of passes with circumstances such as this?

  • Proposed plans isn’t a definite reopening without getting approved. It has not been approved yet people are seeming to forget. All they’re reading is reopening.

  • Since Disney has its own public health officer, shouldn’t customers be given the benefit of a quick temperature check and some basic questions before entering the park? I ask this because some of the most popular parts of the Disney experience have been cancelled through the reopening. Special things like meals with characters, parades (esp the electrical parade) and possibly fireworks will not exist upon reopening. That is a HUGE disappointment to families everywhere. I can’t help but think the park’s health officer can figure out ways to accommodate these types of special memories for guests.

  • I agree with so many of the comments above, no need to re-state entirely. Will there be options for a refund? Many will not feel comfortable with the dangers of crowds until there is a vaccine. Addressing this issue would be appreciated by all! Thanks.

  • My husband and I are annual pass holders. Due to the pandemic the mayority of the time we have had the passes we have not been able to enjoy the parks. We paid in full for the passes at the time we adquire them and would like to understand how is Disney going to reinburse us? are the passes going to be extended? if so, I do not feel comfortable going to the parks right away due to COVID-19. Do I get a choice of when to activate my passes pack up? I understand there is so much going on but we are due an answer specially customer like myself who have paid in full with no benefits in return nor any indication of what will happen with the passes in the future. Also, the terms and conditions of the passes have changed due to capacity constrains. How is that going work? If Im a pass holder and Im unable to use it as agreed in the terms and conditions, what is the point of having an annual pass? Im hoping Disney have an answer for us soon.

  • We bought our annual passes specifically to have a year to take each one of our 7 grandchildren to Disneyland with the express purpose of building a special and lasting memory with each of them. Covid-19 paused this memory year midway. My husband and I are both in the older age group and our adult children are worried for us. There is no way that they are going to allow us to take their children to Disneyland while there are any restrictions, nor are we comfortable.

I do hope that Disney will extend our Annual Passes until this virus is behind us and we, and our family, feel comfortable returning to the “happiest place on earth” to continue building memories with our grandchildren.

  • WE ARE SO EXCITED! If we get in, WE WILL LOSE OUR MINDS, if not.. its not meant to be right now. We appreciate all that Disney has done, and continues to do, and we trust that you have had countless meetings and are doing whats best for you AND us. We understand decisions are not hasty and not all can be ‘stoked’ on every decision. We understand. We get it. The memories Walt has afforded us outweigh any money we have lost, and we’re ok with that. You have had catastrophic losses and sadness also. When we come back I will probably have tear soaked cheeks the whole time BUT KNOW ITS all happiness. I have not complained ONCE, nor will I. No phonecalls from me, no emails from me. Your plate is full enough. I signed a contract with you and I will stand by it, and my word. I have made about 20 hotel reservations this year, along with airline flights, and I just keep cancelling as I need to. We are here, we are patient. We LOVE DLR/DCA. We will patiently wait. Thank you for the painstaking service and dedication. I cannot fathom how hard it must be, I can barely manage me and my 7 year old HAHHA let alone a huge thing like Managing Disney Parks!!! Congratulations on starting to re-open, it’s a feat and extraordinary news! We are here, APs in hand, hearts exploding. WE FULLY SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR DECISIONS. Love Always, In Walt We Trust- Shawna and Riley.

  • Since APs have to reserve a spot, that is no longer guaranteed, will there be significant price adjustments to the passes?

  • I have a child’s pass that is expiring and not timed with two adult passes. If I can’t renew the child’s annual pass, why would I want mine. Is it true I will get banned from ever having a pass if I stop paying on the adult passes?

  • I agree with the comments about the passes. I got my signature pass back when they were still premium passes so that I could go for a couple hours after work or when I have free time. With the reservation restrictions I now feel like I paid for a signature, but am getting a flex pass. It’s not fair to those that paid over $1000 for a pass. I really hope they come out with an option to continue to keep a hold on our passes or partial refund for not being able to use it as intended.

  • I cannot wait for the opening! As a Passholder for 30 years, I know these are crazy times and changes are so Disney can safely open once again.. it is only temporary and at least we can walk into our magical park once again!! Happy 65th Disney!!!

  • Can we visit the theme park in full hazmat gear?

  • If I have a room reservation in August and one of my family member’s AP expired prior to closure AND their name is included in the reservation, are they able to renew?

  • I would like to know, since I can’t get a straight answer, if Disney plans on still taking 200 dollars a month from me for our elevated season park hopper passes if I can’t even go per the contract of anytime we wanted with the exception of a couple weeks around the holidays? Apparently I will need a reservation, good luck, and will only be able to go to one park, and I STILL haven’t received my refund from March! I have never been so disappointed with Disney’s customer service and lack of communication in my life. Honestly, I do not even want this anymore and it would be respectable under the circumstances to cancel ALL season passes since you can’t even buy one anymore or go when you want per the pass and blackouts paid for. Why take my money?? I would like an answer and this to be resolved, and publicly announced!!!!

  • My wife and I chose the signature plus pass for the sole reason of being able to be spontaneous and head to Disneyland any day of the year due to our hectic work schedules. Due to the pandemic it seems the annual passholders with the signature plus pass can no longer take advantage of the benefits of that pass. Due to the increased risks for all park guests and employees, it would be much wiser to withhold from opening the parks until a safer time. If the decision has been made to reopen with reduced benefits to annual passholders, we will make the decision to request a pro rated refund for our passes due to safety concerns and no longer getting what we paid for.

  • Exciting!

  • As much as people love Disney parks, I doubt there will be a high volume of people wanting to go because the majority of the people are afraid. Unlike me. I believe for those who are pass holders who have the next few months blocked out, Disney should allow them to go to the parks to make up for the closer. It doesn’t do anything but give them more money anyway.

  • I, too share the sentiment that I hope Disney lets Passholders pause membership until we feel comfortable returning to the parks.

  • I couldn’t have said it better than this AP holder!! I too am hopeful that I can put my (and my husband’s) pass on hold until it is safer for me to return to Disneyland. A big thumbs up for this comment. I wish I knew your name to mention you because YOU said it all!! Disney…is this a possibility?

A further temporary pause of my Premier Passport for both Disneyland and Disney World is needed in my situation during this pandemic. My age and underlying condition places me at high risk according the CDC. I am afraid and very concerned for my health and actually I don’t plan to make any reservations while the planned restrictions. Without a vaccine to give me a fighting chance should I be exposed to the coronavirus, I can’t imagine being free enough to enjoy either of the parks during the pandemic. Visiting Disneyland is not an essential part of my living needs. Given the substantial limitations on park capacity during the pandemic, my need to remain safe at home with my passport on pause should fit Disney’s reopening plan more successfully. I am hoping that being in Disney’s membership family, their ability to work magic will be used for premier passport holders who are at high risk and make it possible for us to postpone using the remainder our already paused passports for a later and safer time in the future. Maybe the Disney magic could give us a refund and let us purchase another passport at a later less critical time.
