If you’re a fan of the pies at Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port at Disneyland park , they’re having fun with specialty pizzas that only stay on the menu for a few weeks at a time. Through Sept. 21, try an Asian-inspired pizza, with chicken carrots, green onion, cilantro and Asian sauce, topped with crunchy wonton strips. That’s followed by a classic sausage and mushroom pie Sept. 22-Nov. 3. Then it’s something special for the holidays (red and green sweet peppers, perhaps?).
We’re regulars at Carnation Café for the breakfast huevos rancheros, but for later in the day, anybody tried the fried pickles? Worth a splurge, and you won’t find them anywhere else. You get five vertically sliced dill spears dipped in Parmesan cheese and crunchy panko bread crumbs, then fried. Warm, tart and delish in the kicky dip that comes alongside. Add a dose of healthful with the fresh catch of the day or a salad to go along.
Over at Disney California Adventure park, we love that you can pick up seasonal fruit at Fillmore’s Taste-In in Cars Land. Right now, along with the bananas, oranges and apples, you’ll find these out-of-this-world-sweet Saturn peaches. These juicy, white California gems are only around for a few months, so try one while you can. The tiny pit pops out, and there’s a thin skin with little or no fuzz, so they don’t have to be peeled. The perfect park snack.

Another out-of-the-way spot we recommend is White Water Snacks at Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa, a favorite breakfast stop for a California breakfast burrito. Now we have a new preference for lunch too – a hearty Angus cheeseburger topped with carnitas (seasoned shredded pork), pico de gallo and guacamole. You might want to share. Also plenty for two are the carnitas nachos with guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños and salsa. (Most carnivores think everything tastes better with crispy, moist, tender pork).

I don’t know how “secret” they are, but the first time I went to find them, I didn’t know where to go, so I’m sharing anyway.
You can get beignets at Cafe Orleans, but if you just want to walk up, go to the Mint Julep Bar (hidden behind the French Market restaurant). Served warm in a paper bag full of powdered sugar, they are so delicious and now it’s a tradition every time we go to Disneyland.

I am loving this blog post and just in time for Disneyland Half Marathon weekend! Between the runner meetups all over property and the races, I am starting to think I will be eating, running, and repeating! No complaints here!

By far, the fried pickles are the best. Love that fact that the pickles are still crisp!
They have the peaches at the fruit stand right when you enter DCA as well, or did last weekend.
I’ll have to try White Water Snacks for lunch next time, though it’s a hike back to the park from there. I wish that if you were a patron at a restaurant there you could get to use the hotel guest entrance back into DCA (especially since we love to eat at Napa Rose).
I tweeted out before my visit in May of this year what people would recommend to eat. One of the tweets told me to try the cream cheese filled pretzel but was confused about where to find it. They gave me little clues “it’s on main street” and “there’s a piano outside!” So when I got there I went to Coca-Cola corner and sure enough, they had it there. It was worth the hunt!
