Recently, we celebrated another major construction milestone for the much-anticipated TRON attraction coming to Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort the first steel support columns have been installed!

The steel columns will serve as the framework that’ll support the coaster’s track in Tomorrowland.  And today, we have a special look at the columns and the progress Walt Disney Imagineers, Disney cast members and project teams have made in bringing the attraction to life.

The TRON attraction is based on the guest-favorite attraction TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland.  This coaster-style attraction will allow riders to board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for a thrilling race through the digital frontier.

Earlier this year, cast members continued a Disney tradition by signing their names on one of the first steel support columns for the new attraction. Check out our original TRON story for more images.

The TRON attraction is set to open at Magic Kingdom Park in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.

  • Happy to see that the Carousel of Progress is remaining intact. I have a question about the COP however. When I was a kid growing up in Southern California in the 1960s, at the end of the COP ride, you didn’t exit out the back doors as you do now, but exited to the center where it is stationary, and went up an escalator to an area above the ride, and there was a huge (at least in my “kid mind”) model of a City of Tomorrow. It was mostly white with a central tower and there were monorail trains that would run back and forth like spokes from the center tower. There was a small amusement park with a ferris wheel, etc. A small portion of this model is briefly visible and inside a window when on the PeopleMovers in Tomorrowland. What happened to the rest of the model? Are there any old videos or pictures of the model in it’s entirety?

  • I can’t wait to ride Tron lightcycle Power Run in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland for the 50th birthday of the Walt Disney World Resort.

  • We saw the the framework while on the “wedway people mover” (yea I’m old school) and we were thrilled to see how creative and innovative it looked just from the steel structures showing!
The rendition you are showing is just amazing!

  • I love their Disney hard hats! I want one!

  • My son and daughter rode Tron in Shanghai already and really like to ride a motorcycle, never seen experience. They brought back a plastic colourful replica of the twin motorcycle and a very nice messanger bag with Tron coaster design on it. I wish those souvenir items will be available in Orlando at the Opening day in 2021.
