As part of a media gathering Tuesday night to celebrate the launch of the Disney Dream, Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton combined the magic of Disney and the power of the Force to reveal the Grand Opening date for the new Star Tours attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Meg announced that the 3-D attraction will make its galactic debut May 20.
As you’ve read in past posts from Walt Disney Imagineering’s Tom Fitzgerald, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will feature new droids, a new Starspeeder, new destinations and even a new pilot. So, as we celebrate the “Dream” aboard the sea we also are looking skyward to a “galaxy far, far away” in 2011.
Stay tuned for future announcements about the Grand Opening of Star Tours at Disneyland Park in California. Also, let us know in the comments if the “Obi-Wanna-Be” inside of you plans to experience the new Star Tours this year.

I’ll be there on opening day 😀 hopefully.
For those of you who will be there a week before the opening, try to stop by the ride between like 10-5….when the Pooh Bear ride opened in MK (back in the day) we were there the week before, and stopped by several times, to “ask how it was going”…one day, they asked us to go on and test it and give them our opinions….I’m not saying it will work for everyone, but it can’t hurt, right? We’ll be there for our 15th anniversary late June, so we’re good to go, but Good Luck to those who are going early!!
I’ll be there about a week and a half before it officially opens. Hoping to get in maybe during a soft opening!!!
I was hoping it would be open before my trip in August…so excited!
Good timing my family is going back to WDW on june 11th and my oldest daughter loves all things star wars so she will love it.
Is it true that Star Tours and Goofy’s Sky School will open the same day for a chance to draw away crowds from over crowding one park.

I hope the project stays on schedule and the Force stays with us. We’ll be there May 15th to the 21st and May 20th is my B-day. Could be a great year!

SOOOOOO disappointed….I was hoping that they would keep to the original date because my trip to Disney will end a few days before the 20th!
Oh No! We are leaving 5/17! Three days too early!! Does anyone know if they test the ride the week before in a “soft open”? It’ll be a few years before we can get back….

I was waiting for this announcement. I am planning a trip to Disney just for this ride all the way from PA. I would like to be in the first group of people who ride this, any chance that a d23 announcement will be made?
Oh, it seems we’ll be gone before it re-opens. We’ll be there over Easter, heading home on 4/29 🙁 But we’ll be back next year! Can’t wait to try it out!
Can’t wait for STII! Back in June I booked a 4 night trip [being a DVC member] arriving May 19th hoping that SWW would start on the 20th; this seems encouraging that it will! 🙂 Hope those dates come out SOON!
Bummer no news on a date for Disneyland since Star Tours closed there on 7/27 vs. 9/8 at Hollywood Studios and you would think that the eariler closing at Disneyland would mean re-opening before WDW.
I would hope for a soft opening at Disneyland before the end of March since that is my next trip and I would expect it would be open there before the Sci-Fi Academy on 6/24!

Is that the grand opening or a soft opening? Isn’t that the first Star Wars Weekend? I’d read somewhere that there would be a soft opening on the 16th.

Colin… don’t be surprised if you find it having a soft opening (ie. test runs) while you’re there. I was at Universal a few years ago and the Simpsons ride was running just like any other, even though the official opening wasn’t for a week or two.
I, on the other hand, will be visiting WDW from Australia in April. D’oh!
