Moms Panel Monday: Staying Fit and Healthy at Disney Parks and Resorts

posted on April 30th, 2012 by Laura Spencer, Social Media Manager, Walt Disney World Resort

If you’re trying to slim down for swimsuit season or need help thinking of new ways to get the kids excited about exercise, Walt Disney World Moms Panelist Carrie Burrows is just the one to ask.

“Walt

As the owner of a health and fitness company in her hometown of Georgetown, Ontario, Carrie helps men and women reach their dreams every day. But while Carrie is away at her favorite vacation destination, Walt Disney World Resort, she makes sure that her family doesn’t forget that good health is important even while on vacation!

Here are Carrie’s top five tips for staying fit and healthy on your next Disney Parks vacation:

  • Make time to play at the resort pools or Typhoon Lagoon. “My kids love swimming and it’s a total body exercise,” Carrie says.
  • Rent a tandem bike at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. “Canadian winters make biking tough, so it’s always a treat for us to take a bike ride in March when we typically visit.”
  • Stroll or run along the walking paths at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. “The pathway there is such a great thing. My family will race the boat as it goes along the water near the path and see who can get there first!”
  • Opt for veggies instead of French fries. “There are so many healthy options at Disney; you’re not going to blow your diet. Most meals at Disney come with great fruit or veggie options, so eating healthy here doesn’t have to be bland or boring.”
  • Sneak fitness in wherever you can. “It may sound funny, but we’ll run from pavilions on one side of Epcot to the other, or play a round of mini golf at Fantasia Gardens, and that is burning calories while you’re not even thinking about working out.”

New Wine Cellar, Spiffed-Up Tutto Italia Open May 1 at Italy at Epcot

posted on April 30th, 2012 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

Construction walls come down tomorrow, and guests already are making reservations for Tutto Italia Ristorante, one of the most popular restaurants at Epcot that’s been closed for refurbishment. Joining the beautiful restaurant is Tutto Gusto wine cellar, where small plates and more than 200 Italian wines, beers, grappas and coffee drinks are on the all-new menu.

“Bruschetta

The makeover gives Tutto Italia a more expansive feel, with covered outdoor seating for 45 with ceiling fans and lighting, and pretty new carpet, dark-wood booths and spacious banquettes replacing some of the tables in the dining room. The lovely wall murals and elegant chandeliers remain.

Just to the right of the restaurant is Tutto Gusto, accessible through Tutto Italia or through its own entrance. The décor is rustic, with wood-beam ceiling, brick arches and stone flooring, reminiscent of a traditional Italian wine cellar. A long bar is the centerpiece of the room, with wall sconces, a fireplace, and other classic touches.

We got a sneak preview of the Tutto Gusto menu, and each small dish is simple and delicious, perfect for an afternoon or evening respite. It’s hard to choose, with charcuterie and cheeses, including three varieties of mozzarella; mini-paninis, cavatappi (corkscrew) pasta with three different presentations; and eight small plates with everything from seafood salad to polenta with mushrooms and fontina cheese, and steamed mussels in white wine.

We’ll visit Tutto Italia’s new menu for an upcoming post – but we’re really excited about the gluten-free menu that shows it’s not just an afterthought, with entrées including rice pasta pomodoro, risotto, and a salmon filet with artichokes, potatoes and olives.

Now there are three distinct dining experiences at the Italy PavilionVia Napoli (for the world’s best pizza), Tutto Italia and Tutto Gusto. Tutto Gusto is not on the Disney Dining Plan. For reservations for Tutto Italia or Via Napoli (no reservations accepted for Tutto Gusto), call 407-WDW-DINE.

Find Your Perfect Fragrance in Celebration of the One Year Anniversary of Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland Park

posted on April 30th, 2012 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

It’s hard to believe in just a few short weeks we will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the return of Mlle. Antionette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland park. Over the course of the year, I’ve learned a lot about fragrances and each time I step into Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie I learn something new.

One thing that sparked some interest is that there truly are fragrances, perfumes and colognes that can best suit you, all you have to do is ask. Unsure of what to buy myself and/or my loved ones, I needed a little help. So I knew asking one of our fragrance specialists would be a great place to start.

Shalimar from Guerlain, Available at Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland Park Dior’s Escale à Parati, Available at Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland Park Acqua di Parma Colonia, Available at Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland Park le bouquet absolu by Givenchy, Available at Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland Park

Here are a few tips I was provided in selecting my perfect fragrance. First, decide if you want a fragrance to suit your mood, personality or even a special occasion. If you’re in the mood to travel, choose a fragrance with exotic notes like Dior’s Escale à Parati, with which you can be whisked away to the beautiful country of Brazil. For more of a sophisticated fragrance, choose something with a little history like Shalimar from Guerlain. If you are partial to floral notes, le bouquet absolu by Givenchy would be the perfect choice. For all you men, try a classic eau de cologne from the Acqua di Parma Colonia collection.

Now that you have an idea on how to select the right scent, stop in and find the fragrance that best suits you or your loved ones, especially for all those special events coming up (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries and graduations). If you’re still not sure, make time on your next visit and stop in and meet with one of our fragrance specialists.

Here are a few other things happening during the month of May, in case you are able to stop by and pick up a bottle or two of these new fragrances for the ones you love.

  • May 4-6: Complimentary Bottle Painting with any Fragrance Purchase
  • May 11-13: Complimentary Bottle Engraving with any Fragrance Purchase
  • May 18-20: Complimentary Bottle Painting with any Large Fragrance Purchase

Remember to mark your calendars and join us on the anniversary weekend, May 24 – 28!

  • May 24 – 28: Receive a Complimentary Sample or enjoy Complimentary Bottle Painting or Engraving with any Large Fragrance Purchase

Special Note for Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club and Club 33 Members in celebration of the anniversary! May 24 –28, stop by Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in New Orleans Square to receive a complimentary sample just by showing your Passholder or Membership I.D. card.

Cars Land at Night Through a Photographer’s Lens at Disney California Adventure Park

posted on April 27th, 2012 by Paul Hiffmeyer, Chief Photographer for Public Relations, Disneyland Resort

When night falls in Cars Land, all I can say is “get your camera ready!” For years, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering all the different photographs to be had at the Disneyland Resort once the sun goes down, so having the opportunity to explore all the new photo possibilities in Cars Land at night has been a real treat.

“The

“Cars

When you enter Cars Land at night, you’re going to want to walk down Route 66 and take in the spectacular lights and neon signs of Radiator Springs.

“Mountain

This photo was taken just outside Radiator Springs Racers. You can really see the shape of the front of a car come into view in the rockwork with the way it is lit at night (the grill to the left, hood ornament on top, and even a wheel well on the right). Be on the look out for more surprises in the rockwork, some things are easy to find and some are a little harder.

“Cars

This photo is one of my favorites so far. The cars are close and you have great view of the mountain range. It was taken just after sunset and I used a slow shutter speed to show motion.

Check back soon as I will be sharing more photos from inside Cars Land. I’m thinking of sharing some pictures highlighting some of the amazing (and fun) detail you’ll see throughout Radiator Springs.
