Disney Parks Blog Readers ‘Get Spookier’ at Our Halloween Meet-Up in Disneyland Park

Last night, Disney Parks Blog readers filled the French Market Restaurant in Disneyland park to learn how the Disneyland Resort gets ready for Halloween Time at our “Get Spookier” Meet-Up!

David Caranci, Manager of Resort Enhancement, and Brian “The Pumpkin King” Sandahl, Senior Designer for Disney Entertainment Creative Development, led the meet-up panel, explaining how their teams create all the spooky decor that makes Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort so much fun. From designing more than 1,000 carved pumpkins to creating a 9-foot-tall gingerbread house, David and Brian are the creative and hard-working guys behind it all.

After the panel, meet-up guests had Haunted Mansion Holiday all to themselves – free to ride as much as they liked (at least for those who didn’t find it too spooky)!

Upon returning to the French Market Restaurant, who should be awaiting their arrival but the stars of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” and Haunted Mansion Holiday themselves – Jack and Sally.

And of course, there were sweets waiting for them, too.

At the end of the evening, we invited meet-up guests who came in their Halloween costumes up on stage to show off! We had villains and princesses, sheriffs and tour guides. Finally, to add to the spooky surprises throughout the night, each meet-up attendee left with tickets to return to Disneyland park for Mickey’s Halloween Party!

Check the Disney Parks Blog Facebook page later today to see more photos from the “Get Spookier” Meet-Up and keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for information on future events!

  • I had a blast. Thanks so much for hosting! Love, the green haired spook.

  • They need to absolutely do this at Walt Disney World , we are so jealous

  • It would be amazingly awesome if they did something like this at WDW for Halloween. We attended the Mickey’s not-so-scary party last year, and though we loved it overall we were all disappointed that the Haunted Mansion was the same as it always is. That and Jack Skellington was nowhere to be found (my son loves that movie!).

  • Why can’t they decorate it this way at WDW???

  • Looks awesome! i was Sally for Halloween last year and i couldn’t ever get the make-up to look this good :> everyone looks like they had fun at this special event.

  • Hi Erin!! So glad to have met you, I was the one with the candy corn Mickey ears headband. 🙂 This was an awesome event, had so much fun, David and Brian were hilarious and informative, riding the Haunted Mansion with the “Nightmare Before Christmas” overlay (which is so much better than the original, which I still love) – more than once! – was great, loved taking a picture with BOTH Jack and Sally, the desserts were wonderful, and, of course, the best part was getting a free ticket to Mickey’s Halloween Party. CAN. NOT. WAIT. It is so obvious that all you guys over there love your job. I was very impressed, and everyone was so very nice, friendly, and professional. You guys rock. I love this blog!

  • My husband Jerry & I were lucky enough to go last nite. Thats us getting some treats, Jerry in the gray shirt me in the black shirt. The treats were good, especially the double shot chocolate drink, yummy! The panel was great. Hope to make another meet-up soon! Oh, PS thanks for the tickets for Mickeys Halloween Party, awesome.

  • We had so much fun at this event. Thank you so much Disney Parks Blog!

  • I had a really amazing time last time! Thank you so much for organizing another great meet-up Erin! From the hot chocolate shots to meeting Jack and Sally, everything was truly spectacular and spooky. You guys truly spoiled us with the Disney magic yesterday and definitely lived up to Disneyland’s name of being “The Happiest Place on Earth!”. I hope to be a part of the many more meet-ups to come, See you soon!

  • The Halloween panel discussion was informative and fun. David and Brian are great, charismatic & very enthusiastic about what they do. Clearly a lot of love is put into these seasonal overlays. We really enjoyed ourselves! Thanks again to Erin and the rest of the blog team for putting this on for us.

  • I had a great time at the event. Thanks!
