From bright suns to rising moons, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge continues to call travelers to the magic of Batuu, especially with the excitement of Walt Disney World Resort’s 18-month anniversary celebration getting closer and closer. As we ramp up to “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” honoring our 50th anniversary, we’re continuing to enhance experiences thanks to the feedback from our guests.
We know our guests love choice and flexibility when planning their time in a theme park—which is why, starting Sept. 23, we will pause the use of virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios may experience this incredible attraction using a traditional standby queue for the first time since it opened in 2019.
Virtual queues continue to be helpful with attraction access, merchandise launches, grand openings and more, and guests should continue to check the My Disney Experience app for the latest on how we’re using virtual queues across Walt Disney World Resort including its potential use at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at a later date, or from time to time.
In addition to virtual queues, we’ve been investing a lot into the guest experience in other ways, including exciting new attractions on the horizon like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opening soon at EPCOT, and coming this fall, the new Disney Genie complimentary and convenient digital planning service designed to create your best Disney Day.

Quick question….. I understand how you can pay extra for the Lightening Lane for ROTR …..but are there still only 7 am and 1 pm booking options? Not sure I understand that part, what are the “group” bookings too? I’ve been to Disney like 20 times but I must say, I can’t imagine going there as a newbie! Getting VERY confusing & stressful, which it shouldn’t be.

I hope this will help Disney realize that virtual queues, while perhaps useful when a ride first opens are inherently unfair to people who aren’t tech savvy or just slower at doing things. Those people might never get to ride ROTR with the virtual queues. With standby lines anyone willing to wait can ride. And usually there are times when the lines aren’t too long. I also hope that Disney realizes that their new “fast past” replacement is too complicated. Just charge a little more for Genie+ and make it for ALL the rides. That way it will be easier to budget for your trip also, because there won’t be an unknown charge for the “fancy” ride upgrade looming over your head.
So what/how does a stand-bye queue work. Last time we were at Disney the ride’s virtual queue was fill in one minute.
We are desperately hoping to get on this ride this time. Any thoughts or tips would be gratefully appreciated.
Will DAS passes work with ROTR like they do with other attractions?
Less than a month since the Genie+ announcement where it was said: “Attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue, or a virtual queue at certain attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – to maximize flexibility.”
Perhaps you meant “certain attractions like, but possibly not including, …”
This is a really bad idea. The point of the virtual line was so that there would not be a line of people from this ride to the parking lot.
Will the Single Rider Line also be open?
