Pirates Takeover Central PaRRRk: Behind the Scenes

posted on November 12th, 2014 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

Avast Me Hearties!

I hope ye all have had a chance to see the fabulousness of New Yorkers showing their Disney Side in the Pirate Takeover of Central Park by the “prank collective” Improv Everywhere.

It’s gotten some great response. My favorite comment on YouTube was “You Best Be Liking That Page.”

And isn’t that dog the cutest! His name was Hudson. And he just happened to have a giant copper set of keys! Go figure!

Well, we at the Disney Parks Blog were there to capture all the Disney Side festivities behind the scenes.

We followed the IE team through a day of rehearsals and then the day of shooting from set up to the main event.

It was a glorious day in Central Park. Take a look.

The IE team captured the essence of New Yorkers showing their Disney Side – that playful side that comes out when even thinking about a Disney Parks vacation.

Kudos to Improv Everywhere creator Charlie Todd and his team.

And a hearty – Yo Ho Ho!

New Yorkers Show Their Disney Side as Pirates Takeover Central Park

posted on November 6th, 2014 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

Dead Men Tell No Tales!

Central Park turned into Central pARRRk recently, courtesy of the group Improv Everywhere, showing their Disney Side to New York park goers and vice versa.

Such iconic locations as the Central Park Boathouse, Bow Bridge and Bethesda Fountain were overrun by the fiercest scallywags to ever sail “The Lake” in the park – seemingly straight out of our very own Pirates of the Caribbean attraction! Imagine that!

Take a look.

Improv Everywhere, creators of the “Films in Real Life” viral video series, is a New York City-based “prank collective” that causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places.

As you can see, New Yorkers weren’t afraid to show their Disney Sides, as well.

We at the Disney Parks Blog were there to cover all the action. Check back soon for a behind-the-scenes report!

This week’s blog post focuses on our favorite orange Halloween decoration – jack-o-lanterns.

The Disney Parks Blog‘s John Graham caught up with Disney Channel star Olivia Holt (“I Didn’t Do It”), who has some experience with all things Halloween.

Home Decor Experts Sabrina Soto, Michael Moloney Help ‘Haunt’ Your Disney Side For New Disney Parks Contest

posted on October 6th, 2014 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

HGTV

As Halloween approaches, we at Disney Parks thought it was a great time to have you show us your Halloween Disney Side. And what better way to do that, than with a contest!

Starting today and running through November 4, you will be able to upload your favorite Disney Parks-themed Halloween photos to enter for a chance to win a private “Midnight at the Haunted Mansion” party for you and three guests with a spooky overnight stay in Cinderella Castle. All of the details and information on how to enter can be found at DisneySideContest.com.

Photos can be themed to four categories: Home décor, food and beverage, pumpkin carving and costumes.

And each Monday this month, the Disney Parks Blog will feature tips for your photos from some spook-tastic Disney and celebrity experts.

This week, it’s home décor.

We caught up with decorating and design gurus Sabrina Soto and Michael Moloney at Disneyland park recently, getting some great “haunted” home décor tips from Disneyland Resort Enhancement Manager Chris Barnhill. Now, Sabrina and Michael are not just superstars of design. They also have amped-up their Halloween cred as the hosts of “The Great Halloween Fright Fight,” airing on ABC Tuesday, October 28, which spotlights Halloween-embracing homeowners who have turned their properties into macabre masterpieces.

Chris shared with Sabrina and Michael some simple tips for haunted home décor, based on the creepy creations he and his team conjure up for Halloween Time at Disneyland. They include some eerie eyes (a la the wallpaper in the traditional version of the Haunted Mansion) and two sinister treasures based on decorations seen inside the Haunted Mansion Holiday which is inspired by the classic animated film “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Those are great tips. I’m going to my craft store right now! Oh wait! I can’t win!

Oh well, YOU can; and that’s what counts!

Don’t forget, we want to see your most frightfully-fun Disney Parks-themed Halloween photos. Check out DisneySideContest.com to enter for a chance to win some eerie, scary prizes, including that private “Midnight at the Haunted Mansion” party for you and three guests with a spooky overnight stay in Cinderella Castle.

And check back this month to the Disney Parks Blog for more tips on how to “Haunt Your Disney Side.”

Packages for 2014 Candlelight Processional at Epcot On Sale Today

posted on July 8th, 2014 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

I know. I know … talking about the holidays in July is a little early, but I love the holidays at Walt Disney World Resort.

And one of my favorite events of the entire year is the Candlelight Processional at Epcot.

CLP870631

Today, guests can start booking their Candlelight Processional Dining Packages. This is great for you early planners since the event starts the night after Thanksgiving (November 28) and runs through December 30.

We also have a partial list of celebrity narrators including Candlelight veterans Whoopi Goldberg and Jodi Benson, and two fabulous new narrators – Academy-Award-winning actress Sharon Stone and Saturday Night Live alum Ana Gasteyer.

For those of you unfamiliar with the event, it’s a gorgeous re-telling of the Christmas story with a celebrity narrator each night and seasonal music from a massed choir and huge orchestra. The event started at Disneyland park in the 1958 with Walt Disney himself. At Walt Disney World Resort, it’s presented at the America Gardens Theater at Epcot, a beautiful venue, especially when all decked out for the holidays.

I’ve had the honor of being in the cast choir – you know the folks in the green Christmas tree robes – for six years. I thought it was a magical experience watching this program. Little did I know that being on stage, a part of it, would be even more. I’ve had a chance to sing along side actors like Neil Patrick Harris and Gary Sinise, and gospel legends like Amy Grant and Steven Curtis Chapman, who is back again this year.

Here is a partial list of celebrity narrators:

  • Jodi Benson – 11/28 – 11/29
  • Neil Patrick Harris – 11/30 – 12/2
  • TBD – 12/3 – 12/4
  • Whoopi Goldberg – 12/5 – 12/6
  • LeVar Burton – 12/7* – 12/9
  • Edward James Olmos – 12/10 – 12/14
  • Sharon Stone (New) – 12/15 – 12/17
  • Ana Gasteyer (New) – 12/18 – 12/20
  • Marlee Matlin – 12/21 – 12/23
  • Isabella Rossellini – 12/24 – 12/25
  • Blair Underwood - 12/26 – 12/27
  • Steven Curtis Chapman – 12/28 – 12/30

Narrators are subject to change without notice. – Show Times are at 5 p.m., 6:45 p.m. & 8:15 p.m. each night. *Show Times on December 7 are 6:45 p.m. & 8:15 p.m. only

Candlelight Processional Dining Packages, available on select days, start at $35 for lunch and $50 for dinner for adults, include a delicious meal at an Epcot restaurant and a guaranteed seat for one of the Candlelight Processional performances. Note: Availability is limited. Guests can call 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) or book online at www.disneyworld.com/holidays.

Keep checking back to the Disney Parks Blog for updates on the Celebrity Narrator list and other fun holidays stuff.
